Scotland is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, it’s culture, heritage, food and drink, wildlife, festivals, farmers markets, quaint fishing villages, market towns, spectacular coastline, and so much more. It is also the home of outstanding golf, fishing, architecture, weaving, knitwear, castles and abbeys, and an amazing history.
The Scottish Borders has all of this as well as being just a short drive from the fantastic city of Edinburgh. Glasgow, Perth, Stirling and the Trossachs are also within a day’s sightseeing.
There are a number of different options for discovering Scotland and Northern England from Airhouses.
Train - The Borders Railway runs from Tweedbank up to Edinburgh Waverly. Edinburgh Waverly has many train links to the rest of Scotland and North England. From Edinburgh you could get a fast rtain to Glasgow - these run every hour and from there even join the West Highland Way that runs to Fort William through stunning scenery including The Glenfinnian Viaduct made famous by the Harry Potter films. Our nearest station is Stow. The Great Northern Line stops at Berwick, a 50 min car jounrey ) and would take you to Newcastle and York within 1 -2/1h hour.
Bus - Border Buses serve Oxton, our village a 2 mile walk away. They go to various locations in the Borders and up into Edinburgh. Once in Edinburgh buses run all over Scotland.
Mini Bus - we have a local mini-bus based in Lauder and they are available for private hire.
Car -You can also travel by car easily to many exciting destinations. Loch Lommand and the Trossach are only 2hr away, called the Gateway to the hIghlands this is a wonderful National Park full of stunning scenery. glens and lochs abound, plus quaint rural villages and fun activities. Stirling, and Stirling Castle once the seat of political power in Scotland is a 1 1/2 hr drive away, the drive also passes the famous Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel.
