Enjoy the freedom of 350 acres of farmland, animals to meet and an abundance of wildlife to spot.
We have so many lovely animals here at Airhouses for you to "Meet and Greet".
Dylan and Lily, the Donkeys, are very popular and love to come and say hello and have a head tickle.
Fred and Marshmallow are our lovely little goats, they live with an older goat Grace who needed a retirment home!
Ruby, Rosie, Marmalade, Waffle, Sophie, Mary and Ben are our lovely Shetland ponies, mostly rescue ponies who needed a home.
Orlando and Obama are the two cheeky Alpacas.
Apple is our Highland Cow bullock. He is huge but an absolute sweetheart.
Obi is our gypsy cob pony who lives with Bob a Jersey goat.
Snuffle and Truffle are two friendly pigs who will be delighted to see you!
And lastly, our funny little chickens will be out and about.
We have rare breed Shetland Cows as our main beef cattle now at Airhouses. We have a few Aberdeen Angus and Belted Galloway cattle as well. We keep either Native or Rare Breed cattle.
We use a deferred grazing system which is more natural and healtheir for our cattle. That means you will see them grazing outside all year round. We are registerd as an Organic Farm so no fertiliser is used.
April and May time is the main calving time, so you can expect to see some lovely little ones around!
Tommy is our current bull. A beautiful big boy he is easy to spot!
We have a few Suffolk Sheep and 3 very friendly Valais Sheep.
We have an abundance of wildlife here at Airhouses. We farm in conjunction with nature and are proud of how many wild animals have chosen to live here alongside us.
You are very likely to see Roe Deer, Buzzards, Falcon, Hares, Owls and an incredible variety of smaller birds. You may see stoats, badgers, foxes, hares and rabbits.. You will often see a deer walking past your lodge especially early morning and towards dusk.
You will hear our Barn Owl and Twany Owls calling at night and at certain times of the year you will hear Stags barking.
On a smaller scale you will see butterflies, a variety of bees, beetles, snails, caterpillars, dragonflies at the flight ponds and ladybirds!
We have a great 4k circular route from the Lodges, down our old road to the village and then back up the current farm road. It is mainly on our own private roads with a little bit through the peaceful village of Oxton. The hill on the way back can be a little steaper than it looks so it makes for a great morning walk or run!
We can do the walk with little ones - but do find the added treasure trail adventure helps them make it all the way round.
We also have two fenced walks around the farm. The Windmill Walk takes you up the back of the farm and has stunning views to the hills behind the farm and over to the Windmills on Soutra. You can even see Dere Street, the old Roman Road. You can also walk into Airhouse Wood which is an SSSI wood - Site of Special Scientific Interest. The fields around here often have the Shetland Cattle grazing in them.
The second walk takes you to The DragonFly Pond. A small flight pond added in a wetland area to help migrating birds, and aid biodiversity. If you fancy frog and dragonfly spotting this is the walk for you. Both walks arre about 2k on mowed grass paths. They are safe for your dogs and you as all livestock are fenced away.
On the farm we also have a wee Farm Shop. It stocks local produce, including ready made frozen meals, locally made ice cream, cheeses, oil, essentials, our own eggs, plus wool from our Alpacas. There are also some local crafts. A lot of the food is Gluten Free.
The shop is open to guests all the time so if you don’t feel like cooking then pick up a ready meal from the freezer. Our main supplier is Humbie Hub - a local cafe who source local ingredients. Their meals are prepared ready for microwaving or oven cooking, with full instructions. There are also a selection of desserts which just need defrosting.
We have a separate Ice Cream freezer and the ice cream is made in Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders by Giacopazzi’s and we have a selection of delicious flavours available.
We have a lovely Playden mainly aimed at the Under 7s here at Airhouses. You will find it between the Willow Dome and the Farm Shop. It is painted Blue and White.
There are toys to play with, games and puzzles to take away, books to read and also our collection of seasonal scavanger hunts and clipboards.
You can pick up the Treasure Trail leaflets here as well as the Childrens Treasure Trail.
There are also some books for older children, some older games and outdoor equipment like a den bulding kit and giant jenga.
Airhouses is more than an award-winning holiday escape — it’s an experience you will never forget. Explore woodland walks, hiking trails and the peaceful village of Oxton (plus Edinburgh is less than an hour away). And don’t forget to say hello to our friendly animal family of alpacas, goats, donkeys, pigs, Shetland ponies and more...
