A Peep at September!

Borders Heritage Festival

This is an annual event in the Scottish Borders but this year it has grown considerably. It is held in September as part of the Scottish Archaeology month or SAM as it is referred to.

There are lots of new elements to this Festival and the opening event "Lighting the Borders" will illuminate over 25 historic locations with story, song and light from the 1st to the 3rd September.

Included with be events at:

  • Neidpath Castle
  • Hume Castle
  • Jedburgh Castle Jail
  • Newark Castle
  • Eyemouth Fort
  • Riddell Tower
  • Old Parish and St. Pauls Church, Galashiels
  • Duns Law

Many of the most iconic and historical buildings will be flooded with blue light to mark this year's special opening evening including Peniel Heugh, Smailholm Tower and Fatlips Castle.

Throughout September there are events on every day, from walks, tours, workshops, exhibitions, stories, to afternoon teas at Paxton House!

There is a great calendar on the Scottish Borders Heritage web site here if you wish to plan your holiday round some of these events. The Borders Heritage Festival is continually updating their FaceBook page with details of events and dates so have a look there too.
