With February half term not far away, we have gathered together some ideas to entertain older children during your stay at Airhouses. Hopefully these trips will appeal to even the most sofa loving teenager! Afterwards there will be plenty of time to enjoy the comfy sofas, use the 5G wifi and relax in the hot tub.
Have you ever tried Bouldering? It is a form of indoor climbing that doesn’t require ropes - although we found it does require some confidence in heights and upper body strength! Eden Rock is in a huge warehouse building in Loanhead. It has three sections of climbing walls, including a kids/beginner area. There are a number of different coloured ”routes” you can try out. If you are a beginner or under 18 you can do a taster session with an instructor to get you started. See their website here for more details.
It is easy to find from Airhouses - you just head up the A68 and then along the A720 Edinburgh Bypass coming off at the Straiton Junction. Then just turn left at the first two round about till you find the industrial estate and it is sign-posted from there.
Anyone ever gone ape? It all seems a little high, but we have heard it is amazing! It is a tree top climbing experience, were you wear a safety harness as you navigate an obstacle course high in the trees, or plummet through the trees attached to a Zip Wire! Both look awesome and terrifying in equal measure!
We have two locations nearby for this tree top climbing experience. Dalkeith Country Park and Glentress at Peebles. Dalkeith is closer to Airhouses - only a 30 min drive up the A68. The best way to is go up the A68 as if to Edinburgh and turn off at the turning to Dalkeith, head into Dalkeith and turn right at the main street and you will see Dalkeith Country Park at the end.
One to surely blow any winter cobwebs away.
Only 40 mins away, in the wonderful Peebles area, are the world renowned mountain biking ranges of Glentress and Innerleithen a 7Stanes destination.
At Glentress you will find trails and tracks for every level, a cafe, and bike hire to make your adventure even easier. You can also get lessons, or just give the skills area a try.
There are a number of Pump Tracks for the children ( and adults!) to practice there skills in our local area as well including:
Ormiston Pump Track, Gorebridge Auld Gala Park Pump Track and Agraflats in Kelso Pump Track. For links to directions for these form Airhouses please visit our website here.
Flying a bird of prey is an exhilarating experience. Even holding one can be amazing! At Falconry Scotland you can do both. You can meet and handle a number of exquisite birds such as Eagles and Owls, and also fly them to and from your hand.
They have a number of packages to chose from to suit everyone and their needs. It is a really wonderful, breathtaking experience that we recommend for anyone!

Falconry Scotland are housed in the grounds of Dalhousie Castle Hotel, so parking is easy. It is also just over Soutra from Airhouses near Gorebridge, about a 30 min drive away.
So many ideas to keep the older kids entertained, and make them exhausted ready for a relaxing evening in the hot tub!
