When the temperature is well into the twenties yet again, it is good to take a walk through some woods where it is always a little cooler.
Pressmennan Woods near Stenton in East Lothian is a mixed woodland owned by the Woodland Trust. There is a 3 mile walk through the trees close to the shore of Pressmennan Lake. Along the route of this woodland walk there are wood carvings of the homes of Glingbobs and Tooflits - a delight for children and parents alike!
There is a car park which is from the minor road which climbs steeply from the western end of Stenton Village. This is signed and the parking is along a rough track which is again signed, off to the left. There are leaflets for the walk around the sculptures. Near Jedburgh, in the Scottish Borders, there is Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre. Again there are wood walks and also crafts, an outdoor play park, events and exhibitions.
